Last night at dinner Bobby Arnold and I, completely off the cuff, hatched a plan to drive up to NC and photograph the last run for the GSMR Steam Engine. Thank you Bobby for sharing the locations we explored afterwards.

The only thing that we expected to do today was to drive up into North Carolina and photograph the last run of the steam engine of the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad ... that was planned. As the day unfolded several things would be put in our path.

After the train, we headed out toward Robbinsville NC to catch the Cherohala Skyway. Crossing the mountain was so foggy in places it was hard to see the road in front of us. At times winds were gusting to 40 mph. Once we started our decent into Tennessee, the skies cleared, winds calmed.

Later we found ourselves turning off to see Bald River Falls, again the incredible beauty of all we saw. On our way to see a couple other falls along the Tellico River, we ran into these paddlers braving Baby Falls.

A great trip home through the back roads of Tennessee, North Carolina and North Georgia.

Here are a few images from the day, I hope you will enjoy.
