John H. Grogan has been a professional photographer for more than 35 years, serving clients throughout the United States and Europe. His career began in 1981 when he and his brother, Joe Grogan, founded J. Grogan Photography in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Their work focused primarily on commercial photography, including food and beverage, real estate, construction, aerial imaging, and other specialized photographic services. Together, John and Joe also gained extensive experience photographing college and professional sports.
Throughout his career, John’s work has been published numerous times, and he has shared his knowledge and experience as a photography instructor at East Carolina University, Wake Forest University, Forsyth Technical Community College, and through workshops at various locations.
In 2002, John moved to Boone, North Carolina, where he continued his professional photography career while expanding his focus on nature and outdoor photography. In 2007, he relocated his business to the Greater Atlanta area, where he continues to live and work today with his wife, Denise.
Shortly after moving to Georgia, John partnered with Ben Fralick to form Grogan & Fralick, a commercial photography firm known for delivering high-quality professional imagery. Following Ben’s untimely passing in 2017, John returned to his independent roots and re-established John H. Grogan Photography, continuing to provide commercial photography services while expanding into family photography and portrait work.
Photography has allowed me to meet remarkable people, explore unique places, and tell stories through images for more than four decades. Whether documenting a construction project, creating executive portraits, photographing a family, or exploring a historic Scottish landscape, my goal remains the same: create images that are authentic, meaningful, and enduring.
Today, John’s photography experience spans a wide range of specialties, including aerial photography, construction photography, sports photography, real estate photography, product photography, food and beverage photography, family portraits, and commercial imaging.
In addition to his professional work, John is currently developing two long-term photography book projects. The first highlights Southern Train Depots, documenting the character, history, and architecture of rail depots throughout the South. The second focuses on Northern Scotland, centered around Mackay Country and inspired by John’s Scottish heritage.
More of John’s professional and personal work can be viewed through John H. Grogan Photography, while his ongoing Southern Train Depots project and sports photography can also be explored through his related galleries and publications.
John is a proud member of the Royal Photographic Society.
