The construction of the American Express Regional Operations Center in Greensboro, North Carolina was one of several long-term construction documentation projects completed during my years in North Carolina. Designed by Carlson Design Group, now headquartered in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, the project provided an opportunity to document the development of a major corporate facility from the early stages of construction through completion.

Over a period of more than two years, I provided both scheduled aerial photography and ground-based construction photography to record the progress of the project. The combination of aerial and site-level imagery allowed project stakeholders to monitor construction activity, document milestones, and maintain a comprehensive visual record of the facility's development.

At the time, project photography was delivered very differently than it is today. Digital proofing galleries and online image delivery did not yet exist. Following each photography session, proof images were produced and personally delivered for review and selection. Final photographs were then printed and supplied as part of the project's ongoing documentation process.

To assist project management, each image included a custom information strip identifying the project name, photography date, and a key plan map that referenced the camera location. This system provided consistency throughout the life of the project and made it easy to compare progress from month to month.

As construction advanced, the value of the photography became increasingly evident to both the design team and corporate representatives. What began as a straightforward documentation assignment evolved into an important reporting tool, with the number of requested photographs growing as the project moved toward completion.

Projects such as the American Express Regional Operations Center demonstrate the importance of consistent construction progress photography. By combining aerial and ground imagery over an extended period, clients receive a detailed visual history of their project while gaining valuable documentation for management, reporting, and future reference.
