Yesterday was another opportunity to visit the Tennessee Valley Railroad to see those beautiful steam engines from the days of locomotion at its best. The weather was not as predicted, but better. The bright cloudy skies gave a look of nostalgia as we prepared to photograph these engineering marvels.

If you have model trains, no matter the gauge, you loose the sense of size as you position the engines and cars on the track. Today I am reminded of the magnitude and size of ‘full scale’ versions.

I chose B&W images for this collection as a ‘Glimpse Back’ when steam engines such as this one helped to build this country into an industrial world leader, helped farmers to better distribute agricultural products to market, broadened commerce and opened doors for people to travel beyond their accustomed areas. Trains revolutionized our economy and strengthened our nation.
